When we choose to learn something new, we often start off with the best of intentions.Â� This can be especially seen at the turn of the New Year when we offer up our New Year’s resolutions.Â� However, sometimes boredom, loss of motivation or other circumstances arise.Â� These actions often result in discouragement and good intentions are abandoned.

Often these resolutions can include the commitment to lose weight, learn a different language, keep a daily journal, get a financial situation in order, learn how to play an instrument, etc.�

One such musical instrument that is frequently selected is the guitar and perhaps to maintain the motivation in learning how to play guitar, it is important to learn to play guitar fast.� This goal, accomplished through a number of motivating factors, will keep the student on target to learn the guitar and playing music in no time.

Don’t Go Alone

There is strength in numbers.� Therefore a good strategy to learn to play guitar fast is by learning through involvement with a group of other guitar students.� Some of the advantages of being involved with a musical group include the friendships that are developed, the competition that ensues and being accountable to one another.

A Guitar’s Structure

It is very important that you learn guitar basics, and parts of these basics are the different parts of a guitar. First of all, you should know what the body of the guitar is. The guitar’s body is the large wooden part of the guitar. The thin part of the guitar that is connected to the body of the guitar is called the neck. The bridge is located on the body of the guitar near the hole. The strings of the guitar begin at the bridge and end at the pegs, which is located on the head of the guitar. The head of the guitar is on the end of the neck not connected to the body. There are small metal pieces located at various intervals along the neck of the guitar. These metal pieces are called the frets. When the player presses the strings into the frets at various intervals, the strings vibrate and produce different pitches.�

Another aspect of guitar basics is how you hold a guitar. If you are right handed, your right hand is your strumming hand. Thus, you hold your guitar so that your right hand rests on the strings of the guitar above the hole. This means that your left hand is your picking hand, and your left hand should rest on the neck of the guitar. If you are left handed, then you should use these directions as well, only reversed. If you take the time to learn guitar basics, you will be much better prepared to become an amazing guitarist later on in your career. All it takes is a little dedication and effort, and they pay off will be huge.

If you hope to learn guitar, you should know that it takes more than learning how to play one. Fingering and chording techniques along with strumming rhythms are all part of playing, but to get the most life and sounds from the instrument you must learn guitar from the bottom up.

It is common for a person to buy a guitar, take a few lessons and begin to play chords and even some lead guitar parts. However it is when they really learn guitar that they can coax sounds out of one that only those with years of experience and dedication can realize. Literally making a guitar sound like it is talking is something a person can do once they really learn guitar.

Just about anyone can learn the names of all the parts and explain what they do for the instrument, but when they learn guitar they can then make the slightest adjustments and alter the sound coming out of the guitar. Whether the sound is soft and mellow or cold and harsh will depend on how well they understand their guitar.

The Right Way To Learn Guitar

As you strum as guitar, where your pick hits the strings will play a role in the sound that is delivered. With an electric guitar, strumming closer to the sound pick-up will usually make the sound more crisp while strumming further away may soften the sound, all without changing the tone quality of the pick-us. As you learn guitar and practice your strumming, you can use these differences for subtle changes in the sound while you play.

With an acoustic guitar, strumming closer to the bridge will create a colder tone while strumming closer to the fret board will soften the sound. You will also get a different sound if your emphasis on the strumming motion is on the upswing as opposed to downswing when the pick hits the strings. As you continue to learn guitar you will also know how to avoid hitting all of the strings when necessary to avoid having conflicting strings being struck at the same time.

The best thing to come out of playing after you learn guitar is being able to play your chords with the necessity of looking at the strings. Being able to make the chord changes in what will appear to be one fluid movement without having to stop and think about it is what you can accomplish once you learn guitar like the back of your hand.
